Comics as a method for improvement of redaing skills in the teaching of german as foreign language
Neradová, Zuzana ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Botlík Nuc, Tomáš (referee)
An increase in reading competence proceeds in five stages, with the fifth stage being literary competence, in which readers can absorb and evaluate the entire emotional world of the story and all the implicit information it contains. Increasing reading competence has a positive impact on both overall language ability and intercultural competence. One possible method to increase reading literacy is through comics - pictorial or other characters arranged in spatial sequences to convey information and/or create an aesthetic effect on the viewer - which have several advantages such as short texts, context given by pictures or authentic language. Comics offer a direct method of delivery of the emotions contained in the text. To test the effectiveness of comic books in increasing literacy, an experiment was conducted with two adaptations of E.M. Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" - in a linguistically simplified version and in a literature comic form. The study showed that at A2 level, simple language books are more suitable for increasing reading literacy, as the measured increase in reading literacy was 20% higher for the students who worked with the linguistically simplified version than for those who worked with the literature comic. Problems English Speakers Face with Pronunciation of German Sounds
Jansová, Iva Bernadetta ; Nečasová, Pavla (advisor) ; Zeman, Dalibor (referee)
This bachelor thesis explores differences between English and German language on the level of Phonetics and Phonology and defines German sounds causing the biggest difficulties to English speakers. Firstly, specialized literature sources are consulted, in which English and German sound systems are outlined, and after comparing these two systems, a hypothetical list of crucial problematic sounds is created. In the practical part it is intended to confirm or disprove the problematic character of these selected sounds based on the analysis of authentic recordings of English native speakers. The aim of the thesis is to compile a theoretically and practically verified list of the most problematic German sounds for learners with English as a mother tongue, or as an already acquired foreign language, so that the list can be used by the students themselves as well as the teachers of German as a Foreign/Second Language. Argumentation and debate as effective means of developing communicative competence
Špaček, Ondřej ; Švermová, Dagmar (referee)
The presented rigorous thesis deals with the topic of argumentation and debate in the teaching of German as a foreign language in high schools and gymnasiums. In its theoretical part, it examines the attitude of Czech pupils and teachers to the contribution and meaning of teaching argumentation in schools using questionnaires and personal interviews. The author also analyses the mediation of communicative competences, especially argumentation, in textbooks for German as a foreign language. The research and analysis show that both teachers and pupils see good reasons to study argumentation for both school and "practical" life. At the same time, it is revealed that the mentioned textbooks show shortcomings in the mediation of communicative competences, in particular in regard to pragmatic competences. In addition to this, the work presents two projects, which largely support the development of communicative competences for pupils: "Jugend debattiert international" (International youth debates), which teaches pupils the art of debating, and the DSD II language exam, which verifies the language competences of pupils at the B2/C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. In the practical part, the author presents some methods and exercises that can be well used to...
